Proinso to supply solar PV products for stand-alone facilities in Indonesia totalling 1 MW

12 November 2013

Proinso SL (Fustiñana, Spain) on November 5th, 2013, announced it will be supplying 1 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) products to stand-alone facilities in West Papua, New Guinea, Indonesia.

The PV systems, equipped with storage batteries, will be 150, 100, 75 and 50 kWp facilities installed in homes and schools in Gesa Baru, Trimuris, Poiwai, Barapasi and Nodofai.

Stand-alone PV systems in mountainous regions

The PV arrays will be free-standing because electricity is very expensive and difficult to access in those mountainous locations, on islands that are not easily accessible. Proinso supplied PV inverters, PV modules, multi-clusters, batteries and meteo stations, among other products.

Indonesia aims at 25% power from renewable sources by 2025

Indonesia comprises more than 17,000 islands, which makes the installation and operation of electrical grids a difficult task. Only 64.5% of the country’s population (230 million) have access to electricity, Provinso quotes the Jakarta Post.

By 2025, Indonesia is likely to get 25% power from renewable sources, and according to Proinso, “Solar power in Indonesia is growing fast, mainly because electricity tariffs are on the rise, the government supports investment in renewable energy and the peculiar characteristics of the country’s geography make it an interesting source of power.”
