Sputnik Engineering plans restructuring measures
26 July 2013
The Swiss inverter manufacturer Sputnik Engineering will be restructuring and possibly reducing its workforce at its production facility in Biel, Switzerland.
As a response to the current challenging solar market, Sputnik Engineering's Supervisory Board has decided on a comprehensive restructuring of the company which includes the possible laying off of its staff in Biel.
About 60 to 70 of the 300 employees are expected to receive their termination letters end of August if an alternative solution is not found until then in the mandatory consultation procedure. The employees have the possibility to suggest alternative solutions as per Swiss law.
The company also wants to continually optimize existing processes and cost structures, and conduct a strategic redirection of the company. The planned measures are said to ensure the company's success in the long run. The Supervisory Board still rates both the long-term prospects of the comapny and the industry to be good.
The inverter arm SolarMax will continue its service support and customer liasion.
