Largest Californian solar facility up and running
03 May 2013
NRG Energy will cut the ribbon today on its 66 MW Alpine Solar Generating Facility, California's largest fully operational solar generating plant.
The Alpine facility, at Lancaster in northern Los Angeles County, has been generating solar power since February and will today be officially opened.
Alpine will sell power to the Pacific Gas and Electric company under a 20-year PPA.
The scheme is one of five operated by NRG's subsidiary NRG Solar in California along with plants at Avenal, Blythe, Borrego and the 90% complete California Valley Solar Ranch.
NRG also has large scale photovoltaic plants at Roadrunner in New Mexico and Avra Valley, Arizona with the Agua Caliente scheme, also in Arizona, under construction.
