Enel commissions two PV plants totaling 21 MW in Italy
03 July 2013
Enel Green Power (EGP, Rome, Italy) has connected two new solar photovoltaic (PV) plants to the grid, located in Serre Persano, in the province of Salerno, home of Enel’s first PV plant, which has long been the largest in Europe and which was recently completely upgraded.
The two new photovoltaic plants in Borgo San Lazzaro and Spineto have a total installed capacity of around 21 MW. The operating plants will be able to generate approximately 30 million kWh per year, EGP notes.
PV on Italian Army’s land assigned to EGP
Both plants have been built using thin-film panels manufactured at 3Sun’s Catania factory. 3Sun is an equal joint venture between EGP, Sharp and STMicroelectronics. The photovoltaic panels have been installed on a plot of Italian Army’s land assigned to EGP in November 2011 following a tender held by Difesa Servizi SpA, the in-house company of the Italian Defence Ministry established in 2011 with the aim to value all military sector assets.
